A Community Clay Studio in the Heart of the City

The Ceramics Dept.

● About

Building on History

The Ceramics Dept. is a 2600 square foot community clay studio established by two former UArts alumni, Molly and Liz.

Located on the ground floor of the Village of Industry and Art (VIA) within Haviland Hall that was originally constructed in 1824. The space has been many things before - most recently, The University of the Arts up until the summer of 2024.

We’re working hard to reopen this May to help keep the arts on The Avenue of the Arts and offer monthly studio memberships, multi-week class series, and one-time workshops taught by working Philadelphia-based artists.
